History

Founded in 1997, the Haitian Lawyers Association (HLA) is a 501(c)(3), a non-profit voluntary bar association in the State of Florida. HLA’s members include lawyers, law professors, law students and judges of Haitian, Haitian-American descent, as well as those who are not of Haitian descent but have a vested interest in issues affecting the Haitian community. HLA is an organization dedicated to protecting and advocating for the legal rights of the Haitian community.

Mission

The Haitian Lawyers Association’s mission is to foster and encourage professional excellence among Haitian-American Lawyers; promote a greater awareness of and commitment to the civil and political rights of the Haitian-American Community; foster and engender relationships between Haitian-American Lawyers and other members of the Florida bar, especially members of other voluntary bars; develop relationships with other Haitian-American organizations; increase the enrollment of Haitian-American law students and other minorities; promote the general welfare of Haitian-Americans in South Florida; uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession among Haitian-American Lawyers, both on a local and national level,  create networking opportunities for lawyers interested in doing business with Haitian-Americans and promote diversity in the legal profession.
